Hamana Works Develops EV-Specific Car Carrier to Address Future Challenges
In the rapidly evolving automotive industry, electric vehicles (EV) have emerged as a key solution to address environmental challenges and energy efficiency.
As the production and distribution of EV continue to increase, the need for a more efficient logistics system has become increasingly crucial. One of the main challenges in EV distribution is optimizing the loading process on car carriers to make it more effective and efficient.
In response to these developments, PT Hamana Works Indonesia has taken on significant challenges in the logistics sector, particularly in designing and developing a more robust and reliable car carrier model for long term use. This challenge has become increasingly critical as electric vehicles are heavier than conventional cars, requiring a carrier design that can withstand greater loads without compromising operational efficiency and safety.
Critical Challenges in EV Distribution
1. Load Capacity
One of the key targets in the development of the latest car carrier is increasing load capacity for electric vehicles, especially models like the BYD Seal. Conventional car carriers generally can only transport three units of similar vehicles. PT. Hamana Works Indonesia presents a breakthrough by designing a carrier structure capable of transporting up to five BYD Seal units in a single trip. With a total weight exceeding 11 tons, the structural design must be exceptionally strong, stable, and dimensionally efficient to comply with road regulations and operational efficiency without compromising safety and performance.
2. Low Ground Clearance
Most EV have low ground clearance, which makes them highly prone to scraping the floor of the carrier during the loading process, especially on the lower deck. To address this, PT. Hamana Works developed a new, gentler ramp system that ensures safe and damage free loading and unloading.
3. Hydraulic System Load
The car carrier’s hydraulic system must be capable of supporting and lifting heavy vehicles like the BYD Seal without compromising the durability or lifespan of the entire structure.
4. Driver Accessibility
The carrier design also takes ergonomics into account, ensuring that drivers can safely exit the vehicle even when parked on the upper deck particularly deck number six, which has limited access. A special design is needed to ensure safe and convenient entry and exit.
5. Long-Term Structural Durability
Carriers used for EV distribution must be designed to withstand continuous heavy loads without structural deformation, damage, or performance degradation over time.
Innovation and Real-World Solutions
Through an intensive process of research, development, and loading trials, PT Hamana Works Indonesia successfully designed a new car carrier model specifically tailored to meet the needs of electric vehicle (EV) distribution. This design takes into account the heavier weight of EV compared to conventional cars and is built with a strong and durable structure to ensure optimal long-term use.
This design is now in production, making PT. Hamana Works Indonesia the only company in Indonesia capable of producing car carriers that can transport up to five BYD Seal units in one shipment a milestone achievement that marks a new era of logistics efficiency in the modern automotive landscape.
